    The farther you go away from home and the more off road oriented your bike is, the less fun that option becomes.

    The off-road part can be hard on bikes and bodies, so there is always the possibility that you will not be able to get back home on the bike. Also have to deal with the weather - cool is good when riding through the trees but I wouldn't want to spend 2 hours on the road soaking wet, even when it is quite warm out.

    I use a hitch carrier on my pickup. Lets me keep the bed cover on so I have a place for all my gear. Plus it takes up very little space in the garage.

    I wouldn't use one on anything without a full frame and would recommend finding a spot to keep a small trailer if you have a smaller vehicle.
