I got a Garmin 60Cx for Christmas and now I need a mount for my bike. Is the Tourtech worth the extra cash or is the Ram mount just as good?
I should also point out that I do have a 2 stroke that is prone to a little vibration.

    RAM

I've been using RAM mounts for several years with no problems. The Touratech is way more expensive and doesn't offer me any advantage over the RAM.

    GPS mounts

I have been using a RAM mount for my Garmin 60CS for 3 years now and love it and highly recommend it. IT isn't very expensive and can easily be adjusted to help with seeing the screen in bright glare-y sunlight and can be removed in seconds with just 6 quick turns of the knob (so you can take it off when you go in for lunch etc.

I mounted my U-bolt to mar bars with 2 layers of old inner tube rubber underneath it to absorb some vibration. ALso, only tighten the arm know enough to hold the unit in place, then if you hit something or crash it will fold out of the way easily and avoid damage.

I also bought the suction cup base for it so I can use it in other vehicles by sticking it to the side window, windscreen or dash. ANd again it is easy to adjust for the best viewing angle.

I have no experience with Touratech products at all but know they are $$$$$ and look neat - not sure if they are as easily adjustable.

    Good luck.

If you order any RAM mount products from GPS Central, they will ship no charge. Plus, since they are not in Ontario, they don't charge PST.

Dave, I have a Touratech mount for the big Garmin 276 that mounts on and over the handlebar clamps. Not the super elastimer one, but the lesser model with smaller dampers. The interesting thing was I bought it to use on the jackhammer 640 but in that particular mounting position it made the vibes going to the gps so bad it would eventually power itself off. I had previously used a ram mount on the 640 and a KLX300 mounted about 1/2 up the bar with a GPSV no prob.
On the 300 GG though, the vibes at the bar clamps is much less and more like a light buzz and it works perfect there, even running on just the gps battery. Touch the gps in the mount and there is almost no vibration. I would say to try a ram mount and if the vibes are bad enough to shut it down, then pay to upgrade to a Touratech. ($20 vs almost $200)
Every bike has different vibe harmonics. The solution on 640 was to mount it in the Garmin factory car mount on the dash. Works great.

Having used both for my GPS60 I have to say for the different in price the RAM mount is better value for the money. I find that the Tourtech is much easier to get the GPS in and out of and hold on to the GPS much better.
I do use a RAM U-clamp and arm to attach the Tourtech mount to the bike. I think the RAM cradle is only $6? So no big loss if you don't like it.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I will order the Ram mount and if it doesn't hold up I'll get the Touratech next year.
Now I just need to figure out how to hard wire it. :?

As the 2T puts out AC instead of DC and you don't have a battery, I wouldn't worry about it. The 60 series takes AA batteries doesn't it? Use rechargables and take some extra ones or regular alkaline batteries for backup. I think yours should be good for 8-12hrs on one set of batteries.

Of course Kelsow. Well I did, but I posted it here where there are some other options too. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=300600
If you mount it well tucked in out of the sun you will need a remote antennae. Drilled one hole for the mounting bolt and used the end of an old handlebar grip as an elastomer. Welcome to the Adventure club.

There is a pic of a 60csx in a nicely positioned ram mount too Dave. Get the shortest arm you can find. (3" ??)

    Thank you.
Somehow I missed that thread or forgot about it.
I was thinking I could mount my 2610 using the car dash mount but thought
it was a bad idea. Apparently it is a brilliant idea.

I'll have to post on that thread when I'm done.
