I have a Garmin Montana 600. It gets used frequently. I turned it on yesterday and it fired up but the home screen was slightly shaking. When I touch the icons on the screen the screen shakes alot. It will not do anything else. I have shut it off and restarted it. I have taken the battery out and gave it overnight but no change. It starts up but the screen will not respond. I have even powered up with My finger in the top left corner to allow the reset button to appear but it will not respond. Any ideas of where to possibly get it fixed? Garmin no longer fixes the 600 and after telling their tech how it was reacting he suggested I buy a different one.
Rick; It does sound a bit like a hardware problem (chip/firmware)...but there is a repair shop in Montreal for Garmin repairs. I've searched my records but can't find it. Garmin should be able to steer you there, if you find the right person to ask. Bruce
Thanks for that. I checked with Raytech and the cost would be $231.00 +tax for either mine fixed or a refurbished unit from stock. Has any of you dealt with this company in the past? I'm not sure if it's worth the money due to age of unit but it is a lot cheaper than a newer GPS. Any thoughts?
I've dealt with them twice as they replaced my Montana 600 both times it failed - once in warranty period and once outside, but both times I dealt with Garmin 1-800 first. I didn't have any problems. They are Garmin official Canadian warranty dealer.
