I received an email from the Alberta Dual Sport Club about an interesting project:
More info from Dave:
I will be happy to explore further with Dave. It might fit with some brainwaves i have been getting all this riding season. Just some thoughts for next year that needs working on this year. Please forward my detail to Dave. Many thanks for the info Neil.
Neil, Sorry to bother you but any updates on this project?
I haven't received anything lately, but you can send him a message: email@example.com
I've got a bunch of wayside attractions to nominate. Let me know if it gets legs.
Bruce, I have just completed the Ontario sections of this project. I am interested in your nominations before i return back the datasheet. How may we explore?
Do you want to share what you've got? I'll have a look and I can add to it or submit an additional list.
Neil, Thanks fot hooking me up with Dave. I enjoyed working on the project and the Club members will have full access when it is rolled out hopefully soon.
So yes, both Ontario and Alberta are complete and I have passed all the information along to the guy's from the WARDR Rally
They use an app (Free for Android and iPhone) for their annual event here on the West Coast. Anyway..... How it works is.
The App will point you in a direction, basically towards which ever 'quest' point is closest by default, but you can randomly choose one if you wish. And there's a big arrow on your phone telling you which way to go. It will not give you directions, nor will it show you a map, just point you towards whatever roadside attraction you have chosen.
Once you are within 100m or so, it will prompt you with a question, nothing difficult, just something like what road are you on, or how many flag poles beside the attraction. You are given five possible answers. Answer it correctly and it log's you as having visited that attraction. And you can then move on to the next one.
It's a bit of fun, hopefully something to get people out and seeing things they otherwise would not have. I have spreadsheets for all the provinces, so if you know of anyone in say NB, NS, QC, or wherever who might be interested in doing the back end work for their province please send them my way.
It's going to be a week or two till the data is installed into the app and available for download, but I will post up here as soon as it is.
Safe riding everyone...

Just in from Dave:
Here's the link to the Thursday Night (July 2) chat room.
Chat will start at 8PM Eastern and run for about an hour depending on questions etc...
It's a Google Meeting so there's no software that needs to be installed.
The App is called 'Wanduro' and the two different downloads for it are "Ontario Big Things Challenge" and "Alberta Big Things Challenge".
Everything will be explained on Thursday night for anyone who would care to join in the video confrence.
"Scratch" here, the Admin from Alberta Dual Sport. We are on track for the Google Meeting this evening, Trent who is the Organizer of the Wanduro Rally (who's App we are re-purposing for this) will be online to show everyone how it all works.
Link to the App is here...
iPhone app is 90% Ready I'll post the link ASAP
Some other info here...
Here is a bit more info on the App and how everything works from the Video Chat we did last week. You can find the original here....
A huge thanks to the Neil Edmunds and Don Jasper of Ontario Dual Sport Club and @Scratch from Alberta Dual Sport for putting in all the work to collect and compile all the “Big Things” QuestPoints.
This is a fun quest for you to enjoy over the summer. Think of it as Geocaching on Steroids.
The Wanduro App will home you in on the various QuestPoints and once you are there, it will ask you to answer a question about the location to verify you were there and grant you your points.
The Wanduro App has been used in the annual WANDR Adventure MotoNavigation Events for the past two years and now we’re slowly rolling it out to other uses. The Big Things Challenge marks the first time that we’re using it outside of a WANDR event. So you are the guinea pigs!! At the moment, this functionality is only available on Android devices. We expect to have the iOS side working by the 2nd week of July.
You are, in effect, the Beta Testers. So don’t be surprised if there are glitches in the app along the way. I’m counting on you to let me know when things go sideways as well as provide suggestions for design and functionality improvements. (Yup, that’s the cost of “free” )
If you’ve previously downloaded the Wanduro App
If you’ve previously downloaded the app, make sure you’ve got the latest version. In past WANDR events, we’ve had a generic ID that was available for people to use if they hadn’t created their own ID. If this was the case for you, make sure that you create your own personal ID. Since the password reset function does not work yet, if you’ve forgotten your password, you need to call or email me to get your password reset.
Once you’re in the app and at the “All Quests” screen, swipe down from the top to do a refresh that downloads the new quests. Then you’re good to go. The Alberta and Ontario Big Things quests are near the bottom of the list. You should already have access to them. If not, let me know.
If you’ve never downloaded the Wanduro App
To start, go to the Play Store on your Android device and search for “Wanduro”. You should find the Wanduro app. Go ahead and download and install it.
Launch the app and create yourself a userid. Please remember your password because the automatic password reset functionality does not work yet. If you forget your password, you’ll need to email or call me and I’ll create a new password for you.
Once you’re in the app, you’ll be presented with a blank screen that says there are no quests. You’ll need to swipe down from the top to refresh the list of quests. Make sure you have a good data connection because there a quite a number of pictures that the app needs to download. Once the download is complete, the app will jump back to the “All Quests” screen and you’ll see the list of quests. Scroll down until you see the “Alberta Big Things” and “Ontario Big Things” quests. Choose the one you want to play. You should already have access. If not, let me know.
Using the App.
With Dave from Alberta Dual Sport, we hosted and recorded a live session to introduce folks to the Big Things Challenge and how to use the app.
Here it is:

Looking forward to exploring further. Really proud to have been able to be part of this. Many thanks.
A Huge thanks to you Don for all the work you put in getting everything sorted for the App, my apologies for it taking so long. If you ever find yourself out west be sure to look us up there's some pretty amazing riding around these parts
I've passed along the info about the App to a couple of people I know in Ontario. Everyone please feel free to let others know. All of the "Big Things" are accessible if your on a Bike, or in a Car driving with the Kids as it were so don't be shy about sharing it around...
The "Updated" iOS app should be up in an hour or so. Sorry for the delay on that side of things..
If I become a Beta Tester, when should I expect my new Beta 350RRS?
Right after I get mine
