Dear All, I have set aside a total of 40 days this year to do some multi day trips. The roughest trip i have done is the Trans Taiga and i have also survived multi day challenges like the Roaming Rally all on the Shrew. Not bad for a dude who only got the bug 3 yrs ago. Adventure riding has been my passion for many years but i only get to do it now. As you all know, Such rides are safely done with others as events always occour where the presense of a riding partner is comforting and sometimes can be a life saver. I have currently 2 trips i am getting rather passionate about this year. If anyone is looking to do any multi day trips, Please contact me as i may very well be interested. I love history and nature so ghost towns and such will be right up my things to see. I look forward to some ideas on my plans. Many thanks.
Jabberwork thank you. I have done the Maritimes 3 x and i am hoping to explore shorter trips this year in order to prepare for upcoming new rides and shorter trips for members new to the adventure scene. I appreciate your offer and hope to ride with you sometime soon.
@Don Jasper Did you do Maritimes off-piste or via main roads? I'm looking for an 'adventure' to the Maritimes. If anyone has a semi-interesting off-road route (or sections of) that lead to NB, I'd appreciate any tips (or better the GPX File). As for OP's question... have you done the TCAT in Canada or TET in the US leading to Georgia or Florida? These are both great routes.
Good Question. Main roads. Took a lot of time getting there and after 3 days i was done. This i suspect is mainly due to the fact that i had no tracks and was on a street bike. I will love to do it again but i will like to do some interesting roads on the way. I have not done the TCAT nor the TET.
Thank Don, I'll keep an eye out for your next ride. I would be happy to join for shorter rides as well. @GQelements I am looking into the Martime section of the TCAT, let me know if you'd like to coordinate and share info.
I'm considering doing the western TET this year, likely in 2-3 shots (leaving he bike in Winnipeg, Calgary and Vancouver and coming back after ). Maritimes is nice but you have to slog it beyond Montreal/Ottawa to catch the TET going to the Maritimes. Potentially, you CAN take the New England Puppy Dog Route up to the Eastern/Maritimes TET also, if you go through the US, that is somewhat more efficient... this route is very tame though, you can likely tippy toe a street bike through the dirt roads of the Puppy Dog trail system. @Don Jasper @Jabberwock PM me to connect if you want to plan something, I'm in North York, itching for a bigger trip this year. Maybe we can fidn a way to do something together, of worst case (after a few beers at some hipster watering hole) we decide to do our own thing, but would have learned a bunch about each other's plans for another adventure....
Don, I've always wanted to do the Old Hastings settlement Rd and the Nippissing Rd, my Klr is not set up for Hwy riding so the more dirt and gravel the better. Could probably pull off a few days in August or early Sept. Need to get a decent tail bag. Dan
If you are thinking of doing the old nippissing road late Aug is likely a better choice then earlier in the summer. My experience had a huge amount of water in the section north of Magnetawan to Commanda. The section south of Magnetawan is a nice high speed twisty gravel road.
Where are you based out of Don? When you talk about multi-day adventures, do you plan on camping (wilderness or campground?) or finding towns with motels or airBnB etc?
wilderness, Camp ground, Motels or AirBnB. As long as there is good riding and scenery involved. I intend to take each day as it comes as long as i know what is in the general area then i can plan ahead as to my preference. As an example, i could go away for a week and camp for 5 days and a 2 day motel stay inbetween. Now wilderness... I must confess i only did that on the Trans Taiga Road trip. That was interesting kind of wilderness camping knowing the nearest help is about 2 days ride away.
