    Hi, Bob;

    I've been trolling and Googling trying to find out how to move my current Mapsource/Map Data set (CDs) to my new laptop.

    I've managed to "bodge" the software install, so that I have MapSource installed (by getting the "new" software for the new Garmins to install first).

    How do I get the CDs to initiate and install the basic map data? I don't see a .exe file anywhere and the Wizard doesn't seem to trigger it.

    Thanks in advance.

    If you have the original CDs and/or DVDs you just run the Setup.exe, which is in the top level folder on the disc. Don't know why you can't see any exe files, they should be there.

    There are ways to "install" Mapsource (which is only the viewer for the map data) and then setup the map data without actually running a Map Install from the discs but it involves making entries in the Registry which is way to difficult to explain here. That's what I have to do with the custom maps I make.

    Take another look at your discs and search for "Setup.exe". It will be there on original discs, it may not be there on Upgrade versions of the maps.

    Which maps are you trying to install? I'll look at my copies and see if the right files are there.

    If its windows 7 or 8 you are using you can try right clicking on the setup.exe and select run as administrator. I've had a few programs that didn't auto start the install or installed and didn't work right unless installed this way.

    It wasn't visible from the Explore Window, but I did find it by searching.

    Wizard ran, then it stopped and said, "Please start this data CD install from the Setup CD". I don't know which of the CDs this refers to, but I tried both of them to no avail.

    Next idea?

    Sounds like you've got the default setting on Explorer which hides EXE files. Turn that setting ON to show all files.

    Look at the contents of the CDs - the one that has Setup.exe is the Setup Disc. Run the install from that disc and swap to the data CD when requested.

    Sounds like it's an old map - most now come on DVD as CDs don't hold the GB+ that CN, Topo, etc require. You may not have the option of install the map data and need to insert the data CD whenever you run the program. If so, work around this by copying all the CDs to a folder on your PC (e.g. C:\Garmin\{Mapname}) and run Setup.exe from that folder.
