Is the 60csx Garmin the one I should buy or is there another now preferred?

Where is the best place to purchase one?

    http:www.gpscentral.ca/products/garmin/60csx.htm

I should buy only RAM mounts and I can get these from gpscentral.ca or Radioworld?

This unit can be used in my truck as well?

I got my 60cx from GPScentral. Nice and quick. I didn't bother getting the csx, my compass works as long as I'm moving, so does the altimeter, just probably not as accurate as the csx.
I got my Ram mount from Radioworld. Nice and quick once the cradle came in, it was backordered for about 3 weeks.
I've never used mine in my truck, it already has the Nav unit and besides, I'm a man, what do I need map for? 8-[ #-o

Try the GPS forum at http://www.advrider.com , they have lots of posts and comparisons.

Ram maunts are great , and it's the one I use most of the time , but I also got the $15 bicycle one , and it's great. it's a little fragile compare to the RAM , but lets you have the GPS much closer to the bar and more out of the way. great for trips where you don't need the GPS right in your face all the time (most rides , I guess....). You can use it in your truck too. if you want all the search options that you have in the units they sell for cars (like all the POI), just get City Navigator 2008 NT , and all the search icons will show up....if you just want to have all the streets - Topo Canada still has them . Want both Topo and car like? no problem. You can get a larger memory card and upload both , then just select the one you want to use at the time. That's what I do. you can also get a RAM base for your truck , and then just move the top part of the cradle from the bike to the truck

Thank you Dave and Thank you David for the info.
That should keep me busy for awhile.
I'm sure to have more questions.
Like how to use it once I get one. Then let's see Randy try to loose me in the bush again......

Lou - if you are totally new to GPS, go to the GPSinformation website and read the articles on buying your first GPS. They are very helpful.

You could also check out this handout I had at our GPS Night in February:

    Hi Lou,
You might try to get in touch with Knightrider on this forum. He has a Garmin 60CX that he may be selling and a RAM mount too.

Hi Alex - I've been out playing in the dirt with the boys and girls and just got caught up.
It's OK Bert, I'm happy for you and I'll think about you the next time I'm lost which will be my next ride - Ask Randy....
Mr. DualSport Bob - I hear you were at Hendrie and we missed you. I thought you were going to ride with us.
Hopefully another time. I copied your report on choosing a GPS - Thank you.

Hi LouS - I had a slight problem on the way to Simcoe Forest - the chain on my DR350 broke at 120 Kph on Hwy 400! - and by the time I found it, repaired it, and got there, everyone had left :( . Sorry I missed everyone, but it still worked out OK as I got to ride several forest tracts and mapped many new (to me) trails for my Simcoe Forest GPS Map project.

If you are still looking for a GPS, check into the Garmin 60Cx if you only want to use it on your bike. No need to pay the extra for the 60CSx unless you go hiking and need a compass while stationary.

You mentioned on the SCORRA forum about a GPS class. I doubt if that will happen, but over the winter we had many "GPS nights" at the Mohawk Inn in Campbellville and that seemed to meet most peoples needs. We'll probably do the same next winter if there's any demand.

    Mr. DualSport !!! - 120 km/hr on the 400 !!! -
You're lucky to be alive !!! - Where did you ride from?

As far as a GPS class goes - I hope someone else is interested in attending a class sometime, anytime, anywhere...

I'm certain there will be more rides planned in Simcoe County so stay tuned.
