Im not sure if this has been discussed already but I started using "BaseCamp" a free app I downloaded from the Garmin website to interface with my gps (gamin Oregon 300). The main purpose was to store my tracks from past rides to act as my trail map when I went back. I works fairly well but I was wondering if anybody else has experience with any other mac software that might be worth checking out.

This is kind of all new to me so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If your not familiar with Base Camp here is the link:

And here is a screen shot of a few tracks that I downloaded from my GPS from the last few rides at Ganaraska

As far as I know, Basecamp is pretty much all we got as far as interfacing with a Garmin on the Mac (along with MapManager). Works fine. And we had to wait forever for Garmin to get their Mac software out. Before Basecamp they released "RoadTrip" which is similar but simpler. I like that better in some ways but it has fewer features (ie- doesn't allow you to create tracks). You may be able to still download it from the Garmin site or elsewhere. And before that, they had a beta software called Project Bobcat. During the long wait for these I looked around for 3rd party software and there were a couple but they didn't work properly, always ended in frustration.

DerekR is right. There isn't anything else for interfacing with the Garmin.

What is it that BaseCamp can't do that you need? I've had success planning trips on the Mac and then downloading them to my Oregon 450 and copying tracks/waypoints back from the Oregon.

There's also the predecessor for OS X, called "RoadTrip" but it hasn't been updated in a long time.

Stick with BaseCamp, it's only going to get better (hopefully) but for now, I think it's quite usable. There's nothing missing from it that I've needed.
