Amazon has the 60CSx on today for US$248: http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-GPS-60CSx-Handheld-Navigator/dp/B000CSOXTO

If you don't mind the slight hassle of having stuff mailed across the border, this is the best deal you're going to see on 60Cx or 60CSx for a while.

Amazon tend to have these extra low prices on for only a few hours - if you want one for Christmas, order it today!

Update: Apparently Amazon will not ship these units to Canada. Sorry.

Canadian Tire puts the 60Cx on for $249 Canadian quite frequently. That's what I paid. Reg. price is $349 or $399 (Can't remember).

I posted about the Cdn Tire deal last November - http://www.odsc.on.ca/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=13547 - and it was only on sale for 7 days. They ran out of stock very quickly and issued Rain Checks. I haven't seen it on sale since.

If you see it, please post a message here - that was definitely the best deal we've seen on the 60Cx. The current best price for it seems to be C$315.

That's probably the cheapest price I've personally seen for the Csx. Great Deal!

The 60Cx doesn't have the electronic compass and the barometric altimeter that the 60CSx does and it's usually from $30 to $50 cheaper, otherwise they are the same GPS.

That Wal-Mart price is the best I've heard for a while for a local purchase.

FYI, gpscity.ca has the Garmin 60CSx on sale now for $329.95 CAD. A bit more than the amazon.com price, but it's Canadian.

I was wondering if this sale was still valid. I click on the link and it seems to be valid. Also, I am wondering if it comes with USB cable, and way point manager? or is that where they make ya spend the extra $50 or so dollars.

I just tried to buy this GPS off of Amazon but they will not ship to Canada. You will need a US shipping address to get this price.

Yes this is what I was looking for the details. Thanks.

I guess I did not think "what is in the box" was considered technical but that is just me.

I was about to place the order then I read the next post that MarkO made stating you need a USA address for that nice low price. Free Canada Trade Mulroney.

I am going to run over to Wall Mart and see what the $284 gets me (what is in the box).

Sorry, Mark. I didn't realize that Amazon would not ship to Canada. I haven't used the US store before but I did buy stuff from Amazon UK and they mailed the goods to me here.

If you don't have a US address or a remailing service, the price from gpscity is probably the best you're going to do. I think they have a free shipping deal for ODSC members as well. Since they're in Alberta, you only pay GST as well.

That's probably the best deal on a 60CSx, but if you'd settle for the 60Cx (the electronic compass ands altimeter are no benefit for DS riders), then the Wal-Mart sale this week at $284 is a good deal.

I have both a 60Cx and a 60CSx (bought used as a spare) and I have NEVER used the extra features in the 60CSx.

What is the difference between the "electronic compass" and the compass page on the 60cx? I have always assumed that when i go to the compass page on my 60cx it is probably not accurate unless I am in motion, because of the way the arrow cursor on the map doesn't point the way you are facing unless you are in motion. Is that correct?

The Garmin "S" models have a separate 2-axis electronic compass which will give an accurate heading when stationary, if held flat (horozontal). The better electronic compass's have a 3-axis device which works at any angle. Serious hikers prefer an electronic compass when orienteering with paper topo maps. The compass will usually have a setting whereby it only works below a user-setable speed threshold. Above that speed it uses a calculated heading - the same as a 60Cx.

The 60Cx models have a Compass screen which will give you a "calculated" heading if you are moving. However, it's a bit confusing as the compass pointer is only present when you are in Navigtion mode and the arrow then points to the next waypoint, unlike a real compass where the arrow always points to Magnetic North. The compass heading is determined by the "12 o'clock position" of the rotating compass ring and not the arrow.

On a DS ride, I don't really need to know my compass bearing. If navigating a course, just use the arrow on the compass page to point you to the next waypoint.

Thanks for the explanation Bob! I just wondered since during rest stops I often find myself paddling along on my shut off bike to get the arrow to show me which way I'm facing on overcast days.

I found the GPS Map 60 cx for about the $257 price (likely usa $) from thenerds.net http://www.thenerds.net/GARMIN_INTERNAT ... -2&affid=3

They ship to Canada for about $17 . For sure there are additional duties monies to be tagged onto the price as well.

I really want to find a walmart near me that has the GPS 60 cx for $284. Not been able to find it yet.

So I purchased the GPS Map 60 CX from Wal-Mart (3 year warranty and tax it came out to $354).

Turned it on, and it seems to work, however, the unit is showing that I am walking around about 30 or so yards; basically like I am walking in circles and in crisscross. Is this normal for the high sensitive receiver? It is a rainy day and I have the unit turned on inside my house beside a window.

(maybe I should order some pizza from pizzavile)

Please let me know what ya think about my unit going crazy like that.

First off, I suggest you return it and then buy one without the 3 year warranty - it's a waste of money on electronic equipment which usually fails early in the warranty period or runs for ever.

Most GPS don't work indoors (why would they need to?) but the 60Cx (and other high sensitivity models) will. What you are seeing is the result of a weak signal. It will work perfectly outdoors.
