As stated in a previous thread, as a result of the fire that destroyed the bridge on the rail trail, the club will donate $500 to the Paisley fire department.

I will be riding out to Paisley that day to present the Paisley Fire Chief with a cheque. Anyone interested in riding out there is welcome to join me. I will be leaving from Cambridge, or we could also meet at the start of the trail outside Clifford.

Everyone is welcome to tag along. Bike must be blue plated.

    Please indicate your intentions.

Hi Michel, is it the trail ride or just a casual ride on tarmac?

Getting to Clifford will be via roads/back-roads and a bit of trails. From Clifford I will follow the rail trail.

Everything is set to ride the Rail trail this Saturday: weather forecast predicts a nice fall day. I will be leaving my house around 9:00 am. Likely will have breakfast in Clifford, near the rail head before starting on the trail.

If anyone is interested in riding along, let me know,

    Michel

Hi Michel, are you riding the trail the whole way from Clifford? I might trailer up to the trail head and join you, but my bike is suited for off-road mostly, but blue plated.
    Cheers!

Yes I will start at the trail head in Clifford. I am planning on having breakfast at one of the diners in town first, then ride the trail to Paisley and present the donation at 1:00 pm. Next check out the bridge repairs, ride to Port Elgin and find my way back via back roads. Should be a fun ride day, lots of gravel.

Thanks for the reply Michel. I won’t be able to join you unfortunately. One of my other clubs is having a trail repair day and I am volunteering this Saturday.

BTW nice donation for the bridge repair from the club!

    Cheers all!

Thanks KAOS, the donation is actually to the Paisley volunteer fire department. Small town FDs can always use more money. Have fun trail-maintaining ;). I will be riding all day........

Probably around 12:00 at Mildmay. Like I said before, I will first have breakfast in Clifford, hop on the trail and try to be in Paisley for 1:00 pm. I would be honoured if you joined me! You can be the cameraman for the donation presentation :).

So Johninkincardine & I rode out to Paisley yesterday to present a cheque of $500 to Dave Teeple, the Paisley volunteer fire department chief. Chief Dave was very appreciative of the donation and said the money would go toward a hydraulic pack for rescues.

The fire at the bridge was a big deal in that it was considered remote, the bridge is far from any road and inaccessible by fire truck. The bridge is also very high above the river which makes pumping water hard. A number of surrounding fire depts with ATV mounted tankers had to be called out to help. It took many hours to extinguish the blaze. It was only through hard work and some luck that the fire only destroyed the middle part of the bridge and not the whole thing.

Thanks John for riding the trail with me and for taking the photo!

Here are a couple pictures before and after the ongoing bridge repairs (as of yesterday) : looks like the structure has been repaired, some work left to fix the surface and railings. We are told it should re-open before year's end.
