hi What is the difference between .gdb and .gpx file extensions? Do I need to load both files. I am using Base Camp
I usually use the gpx file. The x is the exchange format. We usually post both. Someone more tech savy can prob give you more details
I have downloaded the files no problem. When I check the Routes on my GPS (Montana) I don't see anything specifically called Bethany 2015. What is the start of the route called? In other words, should I see a route called Bethany 2015 on my GPS?
Just looked at the GPS file and waypoint "RT211" beside HWY 115 (Sandaraska park) appears to have the route crossing the highway in a spot where you cannot. Looked at it in google earth so I might be wrong, someone should check. Cheers and hope everyone rides safe and within their capabilities. Duncan
Help, I downloaded the files. Opened them in Mapsource and Bethany 2015 file has several routes, but I have no clue from their names as to the order we'll be riding. Could someone shed a light on this mystery? It would be helpful to have consistent naming convention and use prefixes i.e. BS01, BS02 for small bikes and maybe BB01, BB02 and so on, with alternates and bypasses named accordingly (BB02ALT for instance). This convention is used by RallyConnex and makes for much easier navigation while in the woods when you need to find next route on your GPS. Peter
I don't have the route in front of me. I set up the reg bike route "Bethany 2015". There are 4 or 5 routes .... 2 routes to lunch. 2 or three after lunch. This is the 2014 route run backwards. Reversing the route in basecamp was difficult. I also tried to rename the waypoints to reflect the route and the waypoint on the route ... Ex. RT115 (route 1, waypoint 15). Also, if you click on the route, it should show you the direction. ..in basecamp anyways
I assume everyone knows you only need to download either the gpx file or the gdb file the route you plan to ride. Then the Gta route is just for people coming from Toronto if they choose to do it as well before the real ride begins at Haugens. For the big bike route They are labelled "1st Leg BBB" and "2nd Leg BBB". Then the other 4 small route files are the. 4 bypasses for people on street tires. Labelled BO-0, BP-1, BP-2, BP-3. (We forgot the first one earlier, hence the 0 bring the first bypass. Hope that makes sense for the big bikes anywAy. (Personally I like to convert the routes to tracks then just follow the coloured lines )
The first route I posted had some errors. We pulled it down and we will be reposting it shortly. Please bear with me.
Hello all, I brought a fairly big hiking bag with me. Does anyone know if and where I can possibly store it for the ride? Or is it coming for the long haul? Jordan
Hopefully someone will have a a trailer you can drop it off and store in at the start/finish. Just make sure you are riding with the guys - or confirm where they would leave it if they get done early/have trouble and have to get the truck/trailer. Weather looks great ! Have a safe ride!
Chef - if you want me to upload my tracks (email to you) from the pre ride (entire 2015 route we did backwards last week) to confirm what is correct/available - let me know. Eric
Update New files for the small bike route have been posted The routes are labelled 1-6 but the numbers on the way points don't match the route as they run 6,5,4, etc . We had a terrible time reversing the 2014 route as weird things would happen (bypasses and trouble with labelling) While this isn't ideal we are at a point that we have to get the route up. See you tomorrow.
Hmmmmm that photo make's me wonder....motocross boots...or....rubber boots? What are you all wearing?
no sheep in the area so no rubber boots when i turned the routs to tracks it changed them 6-1 5-2 4-3 and so on
Big bikes are back at Haugens enjoying chicken and ribs. Route was incredible!! Small bikes not so much. 1 group came back after deciding to bail at Bethany. Muttering something about finishing before nightfall. I'm sure they'll be updates.
When we pre road the entire Small Bike route (500 exc and a 250 Sherpa - and him being a new to DS rider ) we left 10:40am and got back 6:15pm (Haugens). That is why it was good to have the "easy " two routes before lunch - and last two coming back this afternoon will be the worst/best drier this year compared to previous years for sure!
