The 2019 Calabogie Boogie Trail Ride is sold out, But the Dual Sport rides are not! Join us September 7 & 8

Anyone with a blue plated (and insured) bike is invited to enjoy carefully prepared routes that offer less aggressive alternatives to the trail rides. There are three different Dual Sport options:
Scenic Tour, consists of fun, twisty dirt, gravel and paved roads through picturesque areas where the roads are seldom straight.
Adventure, Is for riders looking for something a bit more aggressive, we ride some of the scenic tour roads but also include power lines and ATV trails.
Aggressive, Mostly ATV trails for bikes limited to 650 cc or less and knobby tires are mandatory.
GPS tracks will be provided for all 3 rides and we will provide leaders for those without a GPS. The dual sport rides will all be swept for your safety.

Preregistration for the Calabogie Boogie Dual Sport ride is available online until August 1 st HERE

The Calabogie Boogie Dual Sport rides are GPS rides. Although we offer a leader for each of the three rides, you will have a better time riding at your own pace or riding with someone having a GPS. Those riders showing up without a GPS will have to accept the probability of riding in a larger than ideal group. See if you can find someone to ride with that will go your pace and help you navigate.

The GPS files I have uploaded onto your device at registration uses "tracks" filtered to 500 points. The tracks are simple to follow, just select the track to display stay on the coloured line!

Suggestions for following Calabogie Boogie tracks:
    - Set the display to "Track-up" (NOT North-up!), older units without a built in compass may spin the display when you stop. Glance down at the track before you completely stop to see correct orientation or display a track-log of your ride so you can see where you have been.
    - Turn the Auto-zoom off (It's too hard to judge distances when the zoom changes)
    - Only display the one track you are currently following. (Not an issue if you activate the track with the GO button on some GPS units)
    - Select a track colour that you can see easily and does not get lost against the roads or rivers on you map, Light Green is good. (Again not an issue if you activate the track with the GO button on some GPS units)
    - Clear your old track-logs and record a new track-log as you ride, set the track-log display to white to show you where you have been unobtrusively or set it to transparent if you don't want to see it at all, change the display back to white anytime when you do need to see it.
    - Some GPS units will allow you to "navigate" the tracks by selecting them and hitting GO. This gives you a nice fat purple line to follow rather than the thin track colour line. Personal preference on this one. I have an old 60CSX so I just follow the lines on the screen
    - If you use the arrow buttons to pan around the map or if you ever you don't see a cursor on the screen indicating where you are, tap the QUIT button once to move the cursor and the map back to the middle of the the screen. Normally the GPS will keep you centered on the screen as you ride.
    Cheers,

So, who's "IN" for this year's SD Boogie? I'm finalizing the routes now and would love some feedback from last year's rides. Be sure to tell me which of the DS rides you participated in.

    Hi TDY,

I'm not sure I can commit yet for this. I did it the Adventure last year with my G650GS with Michelin Anakee Wilds and while the scenery was nice, the ride itself was fairly tame and left me wanting more. The guys during the riders' meeting discouraged me from attempting the Aggressive, especially a guy with a KLR, who went for it and unfortunately end up breaking his shin and had to be airlifted.. soo I'm conflicted..

I'm putting a bit more of the interesting semi aggressive type trails and a bit less pavement in the Adventure ride this year while not really upping the level of difficulty so that I don't making it too challenging for a V-Strom. This need to still be true if we have a heavy storm during the ride so it will always be somewhat tame by design.

So, bring good MX boots for the Aggressive ride or less aggressive tires for the Adventure ride to keep it interesting:)

Looking to try the DS aggressive track. I've got a Garmin 64s that I'm learning on. As a GPS newb, are you making the routes available for download prior to the day?

Hi EmKwynn, Sorry I cannot send out the GPS files before the event. There is too much risk of a last minute change to the route and then I'd be chasing down all the people that got advanced downloads to update their GPSs. There is also a risk that someone would make use of the tracks at some other time. This can be a concern because it sometimes happens that we get a land owners permission to use a private trail specifically for the event. In fact we are using some roads in North Frontenac again this year that the BMA has to buy day passes for.

I had a question about the GPS loading process at the event and thought I'd share the answer here.

After you have done your sound check and gone through registration, bring your GPS over to the table near the registration desk where I will load it. I ask that you clear your GPS of way-points and tracks but if you have room on your device and you don't think you'll get mixed up with too many tracks or have duplicate track names you don't have to. I will plug you GPS into my computer and send you the complete set of dual sport tracks, way-points and routes (if any) for this year's ride. We can talk about the features of the three different rides to help you decide and you can grab a paper map for the ride you plan to do. This map will give you the track names to follow and indicate distance to gas stations etc. So, now you have signed up and indicated your preferred ride, Scenic, Adventure, or Aggressive, but you have not totally committed to which one since your GPS is loaded with all three. Before the riders meeting pick one and make sure you have the right maps. At the rider's meeting there will be a show of hands as to who is riding which and we break up into the three groups. Those riders without a GPS will look for a buddy to ride with or, failing that, will find the designated leader we provided for that particular ride. The track names will indicate: Which of the 3 rides, The day, AM or PM, and the sequence number for multi track rides.
