Well the weather is finally looking more favorable and the snow is melting fast. This years ride should the best ever! The date for this years ride is Saturday April 20th Postponed until Saturday April 27th!! The route is a little longer with some more dirt added too. The ADV ride will be completely new as well. This sounds epic. A friend and I will be there. Modest experience street and track riders but newbie to dirt. For the GPS can I use my phone? Crf250l and wr250r blue plates.
Some people have tried to use their phone and maybe the newer water proof ones would be ok but normal iPhones should really have a case and gps and a water tight case normally leads to overheat. You also need a gps you can load tracks to as well. Lots of people will be there with and without gps and we have a few loaners and The Rally Connex guys normally bring a few rentals. Come on out and have a blast!
Last year was my first year with a GPS. I show up on my own. All my friends are still pavement pounders. I always meet people to ride with. So if you don't have a GPS just join a group that does.
I've been riding a klx 250 for a couple years, just got a dr650. Will I struggle on the dr with knobbies? would rather not do the road route.
I ride a Dr650 with knobby tires. It depends on your skill and fitness. I'm not in fantastic shape and my skill is intermediate I think. The problem area is mud. You really notice the weight when trying to get through mud. And getting unstuck is a bitch. I've ridden single track and railway line. Its alot more tiring than the 250. But still fun and achievable. Hope this helps.
You will be fine on the 650 there is alternates around any really challenging stuff if your conserned but nothing is hard with the the right tires
Oh, that brings back memories of the Bethany a few years back. Me leading on my 690, Wudzrydr on his 690 behind me and Demon on his 950 pulling up the rear. Hauling the mail down a trail very similar to that ... the sound from the snarling bikes was unbelievable. All I could think of was trying to go faster and keep my sh@# together to avoid getting run over. Great ride! Love that 950!
First time trying a ride like this. Do I just show up the morning of and pay and ride or do I have to sign up online somewhere? Is the GPX rout available yet? I am and OFTR member as well as Niagara Timberline Rider member. KTM 690 on knobbies so I don't want to be on miles of pavement
Hi Erin, We should have the online registration up shortly but no issues with just registering the day of for new members either. The DS option is very well tailored to a 690. The guys on the smaller bikes will have less struggles but you should be fine. Still snow out there...lets pray for some sun and warm weather!!
I'm pumped for this year's ride - can't wait... TWO WEEKS FROM SATURDAY LADS!!! I'm torn between riding my tried tested and true TE450, or switching it up and testing out a newly purchased toy for this year, a 1990 DT200R I just picked up last weekend. Either way can't wait, Easter Weekend 2019 w00t w00t!
Just bought a crf250l from GP bikes. Should have it the day before this ride at the latest. Looking forward to the ride.
