Hey guys, does anyone have any trail/riding suggestions (gpx files preferably) near Parry Sound suitable for an eduro bike?

Going to be camping with the famly and thinking of bringing the Beta with me to sneak out for a few hours each day...

Thank you in advance for any suggestions. Please PM me (or post here if OK) if you can offer any ideas.

Been a couple of years since I did these but they were fun.
Parts of the Park to Park in that area can be fun - The Muskig trail near Killbear Park.
Liebeck Lake trail loop off the Seguin Trail _ East of Hwy 400
Tower Rd ATV / snowmobile Trail starting to Hwy 69 and Tower rd - crosses the Moon River to Twelve Mile bay rd
Old Nipissing Rd Magnetewan to Commanda .

Thank you very much for the reply. I'm staying right at the base of the Seguin, so that looks like what's going to be the ticket this weekend. It's more of a big bike route, but better than nothing i guess...

Alternately, Would anyone have suggestions as to where else one may find some single track or just more challenging ATV trials around Parry Sound? I'm good with a 20min drive if required...

I'm seeing some tracks North West of Severn (West of 69, around Barron's lake) anyone familiar with these?

Haha, that ain't Parry Sound! That's my neck of the woods!

There are a lot of snowmobile trails and ATV trails in that area, but I am not sure what the situation is regarding bikes on the trails. I think it is a grey area. On the other side (east) of 69, following the transmission corridor is the Big Chute trail from Tower Line Rd up to Big Chute. Can be difficult if it is wet, but there are usually lots of bypasses around the water holes, and some of the holes have hard bottom. Tread carefully, especially if alone. There are some fun spots in there but it is mostly double track.

I have never ridden on the trails you have shown, but I do know the area. Mix of private and crown land back in there. You are typically free to ride on any of the Hydro One transmission corridor trails without issue, although again it is a grey area. It is kind of a free for all for all off road types as long as there isn't a gate or posted signs. Most of the transmission lines in the south have been gated due to trespassing and abuse by folks. However, most of those corridors are easements on private properly (farmland and such), and not agreements with the crown as you see north of the Severn. The more you go north, the more fun it gets in the corridor areas. There is a large offroad area up near Ardbeg that is popular with all sorts, especially Jeepers.

You can ride north from Big Chute as well, following the corridor and venture into the bush to find the rapids. Been wanting to try that out on the bike for a while. The river will eventually turn you around though. Same thing for the corridor going south from South Gibson Lake Rd, at the very end. Just try not to venture into the conservation area, even if you see a trail. They are cross country ski trails and hiking trails, not single track. There is no official, maintained single track in this area. Once you go north of Horseshoe/SCORRA territory, its what you know and who you know.

All this stuff is use at your own risk. There is no club supporting OFTR for this area, unless OFTR has agreements with the ATV associations that I am unaware of. Tread lightly as usual and be respectful. There are a lot of people in this area who are friendly to off road riding of all types. You are likely to run into people on the trails who will wave, chat, and ask if you are all good.

Let me know if you need any other info, more detailed, and I can shoot you a PM.

It's been years since I've been on them, but I remember some good hydro line trails going north off of Kirkhams road, which is just off of Hwy 124, a few km north of Parry Sound. The satellite view of Googlemaps shows the twin hydro corridors quite clearly. The access is the east hydroline-you may have to go over some wet ground first. The west hydroline provides easier access, but it may be someways driveway, not sure.

I found these to be some of the best hydroline trails in Ontario. Lots of exposed bedrock. It's rideable all the way up to the Magnetewan river.

My preferred access to that area is to take 124 to bunny trail north to 520, where you go west to the little railside town of Ardbeg. Little store there good for supplies and icecream. If you keep going you'll eventually hit the corridor. Great spot back in there, coveted by many.

If anyone wants to do a ride up there to mess around a bit, would make a fun day trip for a sunday or saturday. Bunny trail is a fun road to zoom on.

    Hey guys,

Thank you for the suggestions. I wound up finding awesome riding right between Parry Sound and KOA at 69/Seguin. Wasn't too challenging, but enough for a 2-days of fun morning rides without worries about getting stuck and risking missing the designated 'beach time' with the family in the afternoon.

Here is the video of my ride and the GPS snapshot (happy to share if anyone is interested).

Looks like a fun run being right next to your campground. I plan on being there next week - do you have a gpx file for your ride that you can share?

GQelements, loved the videos. Never, say never, but I doubt I will ever do Green Mountain. Even if someone gave me a bike to borrow. However, it is great to see what the possibilities are. Went to your site, blog and videos. Couldn't figure out how to "like" or subscribe when I used the links within your text. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for posting and helping me see what is out there. I have a friend that lives in Parry Sound. I will have to tell him I am joining his COVID-19 bubble and move up there!

Hi @Craig Tilford thanks for the kind words. Happy to share what I can and excited it inspired some ideas.

Don't fear the Green's Mountain, there are lots of trails there that are not too extreme so you can make a day trip out of it and take in only bite-sized chunks of the more challenging ascents...

I'm new to the website thing too (kind of learning that part) but you can subscribe to the videos via the YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCEfWquRIv3gTResqHu07xmA
