Hi Guys, does anyone have any gps files of trails off of Billie bear road, or limberlost road in the Huntsville area? I have a friend who has a cottage in the area but he isn't aware of to many trails. We'd like to put together a loop. Any help would be great, Thanks Greg.
Greg, most of Billie bear is sled trail in winter and Ive done it all on sled, I dont know any off it directly but have rode the bike on the 101B sled trail that runs south from there on cottage rd then trail and logging rd out to Oxtounge lake, heading out shortly but I,ll see what I can find . Some pretty gnarly stuff from hwy 60(baby head boulders, maybe timber trail rd?) just west of Oxtounge north to Limerlost rd which leads west to bille bear.
Seems Ive lost a good chunk of my gps files when my old laptop died and the ones from my gps dont include this, so this is a rough(very) idea of a loop I drew on mapsource. Lots more around there for sure, I know where the sled trail veers off Bille bear heading north to Kearney it seemed to be decent wide trails with snow on it, but have not had the bike in that area, mostly know south from there and it depends on what kind of terrain you are looking for.
There are some ATV trails in that area, and I believe they are okay to run on a bike as it is almost all crown land, but some of it is very difficult. Trail 101 on this map in red was very tough, especially getting down the hill leading to Big East River PP. I'm pretty sure that is the trail I broke my skid plate and a footwell on my ATV. Lot of steep slippery rock leading down to deep mudholes. It might be better this time of year though if things dried out at all. I was up on those trails a few weeks ago . Trail 16 would be a bear on a bike as the river crossing was deep . Over 3 ft deep as I was going thru it . Trail 28 is closed now for logging but when I went thru it was very long deep water crossings close to 3 ft . Trail 37 was pretty much impassible and I would only ever have tried it on my trusty old Yamaha IT or maybe my 300 but be prepared for over heating . Its rocky , slippery muddy and generally a great time but do not bring dual sport tires unless you like dragging your bike thru some of it. I grabbed the BRMB for my gps and its great . Trails I never knew about pop up no matter where I am riding .
That's funny, because just a couple weeks ago I stalled out my bike and had to push it to a point that the exhaust wasn't in the water on T16. Had I kept to the North side of the trail I might have made it. The South side of the trail was, as you said, probably around 3' deep. For reference, this hole is the one pretty well at the end of the park to park trail, and there is a wooden snowmobile bridge over a river at the West side of the trail. It is deep this year. I have video of when I crossed that hole on the DRZ and it was not as deep then compared to now. This was the spot a few years ago. A couple weeks ago I think the water was near the top of the grassy edges, so about a foot deeper than this image:
