My son and I were there this last week, and I just discovered that I lost my license plate. If anyone hears of a plate being found in the west forest, contact me directly at 519 495 4205
Not sure where, all I know is that the plate was gone when I unloaded the bike Wednesday evening . So I'm assuming it fell off in the forest or I suppose could've blown off while I was travelling down the highway. It was zip tied on to the motorcycle. I've left a message at the Ganaraska forest centre in case anybody find it.
Those zip ties sure aren't made like they used to be. You've only put a few hundred Kms on since you zipped that broken license plate. Sharp jagged metal edges never used to bother those ties. Maybe you used the cheaper brand.
Actually I think the license plates are being made out of a higher grade surgical steel. I will know better next time and double up the zip ties!!
Hope you find your plate. I think I've lost +3 license plates in the last 2 seasons. I think main culprit has been soft suspension bottoming out and catching the plate of a 350 LBS bike while gunning it across long/big whoops. Now i have 2 screws with Locktite and an additional safety wire (for the third point of contact) holding it there...
You will have to go to the police and file a report and take a copy to the mto before they will replace your plate. .DONT tell them you lost it in the ganny or anywhere out of the local police duristiction. Otherwise they will tell you that you have to file the report where you lost it.
Losing plates is a bit of a pain... Yep, just say you lost in the area that your closest local police department covers, whether it be city police, or OPP. It's still going to cost something like $20 to replace. I've lost a couple of plates over the years & now usually just attach the plate to my backpack with a couple small bolts, nuts and washers. It doesn't quite follow the letter of the law, but at least it's visible, doesn't get covered in mud and doesn't get lost. If I do need to attach it to the bike, I use 3 zip ties on each side. They still don't last long though...
Brian mounting a plate to the operator doesn't follow ANY of the letters of the law. Mount it properly to the vehicle where it belongs. In terms of a lost plate I believe the reporting requirements have changed. As long as the plate was lots, and not stolen there is no need to report it to the police you can simply go to a service ontario location and get a replacement.
you are absolutely correct Brad. I just came back from Service Ontario. No questions asked, just fill out a simple form stating whether it was lost or stolen and pay your 57 bucks.
My KLR used to hit the plate and fold it back over the rear tire. So I moved it up by using the bottom plate holes; now the plate only gets a bit of a curl when it touches the knobbies.
