Great Ride for most Best wishes to the rider down for a speedy recovery. Conditions were perfect for an accident to happen it's just really unfortunate that it happened... First ride of the season for many, dust so thick at times visibility was zero. Some New riders and that urge we all get to twist that throttle just a little more. Not sure of the details of the rider down Just hope for a speedy recovery and back on the bike soon. I'm sure it could have happened to any of us. Be safe have fun the season has just begun.
hey guys - I was the one taking pics of the ride yesterday along the trail. Is there a FB page for the event I can post them to? I checked the one on the front of the ride numbers on your bikes, and it's not an existing page. thanks
Basically what Bruce wrote. Over the past 10 years, I've participated in numerous trail rides as well as competitive events that have used 2-way routes. This is the first time I've heard of an issue on a 2 way track during an event. Not casting blame here- All the trails we use for events like this are on public access trails. Anyone could be out there on pretty much anything & riders need to keep that in mind. It is the riders responsibility to ride within the speed limits(50 km/h in the Ganny) and their abilities, as well as be concious of what might be hiding or coming around the next blind corner. Were the 2-way tracks covered in the riders meeting? Perhaps a few well placed 2-way arrows would be helpful as reminders to the riders...... Heal up quick George!
to find the Facebook page you need to type the long name into the search. "Ontario Dual Sport Club". The short version has stopped working for some reason.
This is the facebook page, not sure where to upload pics though (sorry, I'm a fb n00b): https://www.facebook.com/odsc.on.ca
I ride the trails around this area often and you always have to assume that another vehicle will come flying towards you. Sled rules apply. Keep right and stay in control ! The Ganny is particularly dangerous on weekends.
I have noticed in various clubs (with frequent elections) that some lessons had to be learned year after year after year. The leaders benefited and never forgot, but those who followed almost always had to relearn, and relearn the hard way. Can we start a public document, "how to plan a group ride" so these lessons / suggestions / recommendations are captured? If we can get it into checklist format, that reduces the risk of planning mishaps, and also might permit delegation of some pieces. It also means that everybody has a shared understanding of what to expect, and should reduce the volume of discontent. In this instance, I don't think the EVENT would change much, but perhaps behaviour of individual participants / group leaders would have. Thoughts?
The accident is unfortunate and I hope the rider has a full and speedy recovery. However, its time people take full responsibility for there actions! There is always a risk of these incidents while riding these areas. And by attending a ride such as this exposes you to such risks! Its absolutely no fault of the planing! The accident was clearly caused by one of the riders, not the planned route! lol
I apologize for my somewhat harsh comments, I was still a little pissed at what happened to someone we know. We stayed with George and it's such a shame that he will miss the entire riding season. I'm a new rider and still inexperienced, still not familiar with the entire trail system and how it works. Some signage would have helped a great deal with the volume of rider's we had yesterday. Thanks for organizing a great ride.
I did fuel up that morning in Manchester, but it was unrelated. The problem ended up being the coil wire became disconnected!?!? I'm not sure how since it's a screw-on type connector, but the bike is running again. I'll be replacing that wire just in case.
They're not posted anywhere as of yet. They are available to the clubs and may be posted on the OFTR site in the future for download by ride organizers etc.
Pics are posted here - will keep adding to this album as i get to editing the over 500 I took. Please give them time to download as you go through them - they are very high res. https://www.icloud.com/sharedalbum/#B0W5VaUrzXUsJp
It would be instructive for members to see exactly how many hoops organisers have to jump through, and also for those who just want to contribute. Please let us know if it becomes available.
