After 10 years on pavement, I finally got myself a dirtbike (CRF250L - can't just leave the road behind cold turkey). I wanted to do some Ganaraska rides. Does ODSC have a good number of easy beginner friendly group rides over the course of the year that go through that forest? I'm currently looking to join a club that covers that. Everyone seems to be suggesting SCORRA or ODSC. Which club would be more suitable to me do you think (obviously this is an ODSC board, so some bias is OK :) )

The ODSC Bethany ride is great for newcomers since it gives you a taste of dual sport riding. Both ODSC and SCORRA have training days; look for postings in the spring. SCORRA is mostly trail riding so the ODSC is a better fit if you want a mixture of trail and backroad riding.

How much single track riding do you want? Are you willing to ride for the entire day? I could show you around the Ganny.

The ODSC should have a training day in the spring. It is usually run out of trail tours at the Ganaraska. It is a great way to start the season, learn some skills and meet some people.

I feel like ODSC would be better for me in this case, as I'm fairly new to offroading so I feel like the ODSC rides would be better, given they have backroads/trail mixture.

And yes, I would love for you to show me around the Ganny :) I'm sure there would be a couple of other newcomers that would want to tag along.

I've run a spring training day for the ODSC for a number of years now. We do it at Trailtours, right beside the Ganny and it usually happens in May. Keep an eye out on here for the notices.

Welcome to the Dirty Side... Regardless of which club(s) you choose you are going to have a blast this year.

In your initial post it mentions looking for a club that includes the Ganaraska. Worth noting that although members organize informal rides there you will need to purchase a pass from the Ganny to ride there as its not included in the OFTR membership so there are no suprises

    Hey

Welcome! Get yourself joined up to the OFTR and the Ganny, I would be happy to take you around for a leisure ride.
Keep an eye on this board, I post up casual rides and are always looking someone to go out.

I think the Ganaraska ORV Membership cost is $150/person for season from April 1st to the end of November.

From Dec 1st to April it's handed over to OFSC.

I'm one of the slow guys so a "show me around" ride is right up my alley. There will be a lot of single track though so expect to be tired and sore by the end of the day. I can offer some night riding too if you want to give that a try.

Once you get a tasted of dual sport riding you might be looking for a DRZ400

I had the 250L last season and was very surprised at how much I enjoyed that bike. It was simple, it ran perfectly all the time. It had good pep for a 250 and with it being a Honda there is almost no maintenance. Enjoy your new bike and the only suggestion I have is spend some money before your off road ride it and get different tires, a set of MotoZ's are great on that bike they wear well on pavement and are quite capable off road. Reasonable price too, especially if you are used to buying tires for a street bike.

Thanks for the tip. Which Motoz tire did you use? Was it the Tractionator I/T?

That would work well depending on how much road riding you will do. They are not bad for wear on pavement so I would start there.

Go with the ST. Harder compound. Will wear better on roads, work better offroad in typical sandy loam soils.

    hello every one,

I am another rookie trial/dirt rider. I also gave up on the road riding this year ... good bye Harley .... hello DRZ 400S. As some of the others here said a rookie ride would be awesome. I live in Elmira ON does anyone have a club recommendation in this area? how do I fine local trails or meet local trail riders? Thanks for the help.

    ODSC :)
KW cycle sport is the closest club with land. Nearby, there is Lynn Valley Dirt Riders, Halton Off Road Riders and we're also starting a new club up in Dufferin Cty.
